Now that Easter Sunday is over – the food enjoyed, candles burnt down, gifts played with and copious chocolate consumed – I’m starting to think a bit more about Frida’s birthday which is just a week and a half away. How on earth is it possible that my baby is going to be THREE so soon? Suddenly there is so much I need to do – a birthday crown to finished, a tea party menu to plan, balloons to order (biodegradable of course), celebrations to finalise, and as ever, some last minute crafting to do.

I will share more of our plans over the next couple of weeks, but for now I hope you’ll indulge me as I leave you with some photos from our Easter celebrations. This year Easter felt really special, as we had spent time in the weeks and days leading up to it talking about it, crafting, and preparing. I have no doubt that the energy, good intentions, love and anticipation that go into the preparations all contribute to creating a special day.

We celebrated with fresh bread for breakfast, eaten with good butter and duck eggs. Sweet spring gifts. An egg hunt in the garden in pyjamas, searching for dyed eggs and chocolate. Chocolate eaten. Another egg hunt at a local green space, complete with sloshing about in deep mud and shallow streams. Watercolour painting. A simple gift hand-delivered to a poorly little friend. Books, new and old, and stories about magical hares. Dance parties. Play.

Now that Frida is old enough to begin to appreciate the cyclical nature of these festivals alongside the seasons and months of the year, I know that we will all grow to treasure these seasonal rhythms and family traditions for years to come.
