Moon teatime 🌙
I had high hopes of taking Frida into town to the National Gallery today, but just as we were about to leave she decided she did not want to leave the house at all, so we stayed put.
I find days like this quite hard; I have to quickly readjust my expectations for the day and slow down again just as I’m gearing up to go out. But no matter: this is the freedom that we choose in consciously giving Frida a slow childhood where we can go at her pace, and it is a privilege.
So instead we read piles of books, listened to music, played, made modelling clay planets, and as we had so much time on our hands we had a moon theme teatime complete with Moonlight Sonata playing, “night time” tea and Oreo moon biscuits (not my idea, I saw these ages ago on someone’s feed!)
I’m torn between feeling pleased that we managed to do this as Frida was predictably delighted - turns out biscuit-based learning is a win, who’d have guessed?! - and horrified at the vast amounts of sugar consumed (not pictured: all the broken attempts we both ate).
Verdict: fun for a one-off, but tomorrow it’s back to carrot sticks and hummus.

Frida has recently started showing much more of an interest in what she wears and in picking her own clothes. It’s so fun to see what combinations she chooses: here she is wearing a spotty skirt under her dress.
This means that Frida now picks her own new clothes to buy too. We tend to buy her clothes online so I will give her guidelines (eg. you need a jumper and some tights) and then show her the options to choose from. Where possible, she chooses yellow clothes as this is still very much her favourite colour (it was her second word, as she has loved it ever since) 💛
